The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to reprise their roles in the upcoming Hunger Games series movie, Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
A Major Comeback for the Franchise
The duo are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. It is believed their cameos will probably be featured in a brief glimpse ahead, as the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This represents the sixth film in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed nearly all the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's events are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
The supporting roles feature several notable actors in key parts:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
