A Mountain of Anime News Landed During the Holidays

The winter break provide a plethora of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the updates: unwrapping gifts, indulging in holiday treats, and using deep breathing to refrain from yelling at family members. I hope you were able to do all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous noteworthy announcements emerged during the break, and should you overlooked a few, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising revelation, the notorious troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter the series' continuation. Season 3 will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they might as well have called it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. However, the key visual for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, at this point, they are probably teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now the community is ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been going on for some time, and season 6 was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will probably air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio known for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.

Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two

Shortly after the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara.
